Beefree alternatives: who should leave, for which builder, and what to save first
By Mara Levin · Updated October 7, 2026 · Vendor pages and prices checked that day
Beefree, which now trades as RGE Studio, is a drag-and-drop email builder and nothing else: it designs and exports, and your own sending platform does the delivering. Teams leave it for reasons written on its pricing page, namely a free plan capped at six exports a month, a paid plan meant for one person plus a second seat, and approval workflows that start at $160. Here is where each kind of leaver goes.
The short answer
A solo designer who exports every week should look at Topol PRO at $10 or Stripo Basic at $20. A three-person team that needs shared access without Beefree's Business tier is cheaper on Topol Team, Postcards Pro or Stripo Medium. A team that only wants fewer tools can use the editor inside its sending platform. Stay if you actually use Business-tier approvals, brand controls or separate client workspaces.
What Beefree charges, in two sentences
The pricing page lists Starter at $0, Professional at $30 a month ($25 billed yearly), Business at $160 ($134 billed yearly) and Enterprise on request. It offers a 15-day free start, and the caps and seats per plan are on that page rather than repeated here.
Why teams leave
None of these is gossip. Each one is a line on the pricing page or its FAQ.
- The free plan meters exports. Starter allows 6 exports a month and 10 designs. A freelancer who ships eight client emails in a month has already run out, and the plan table says that "Download zip files or copy & paste HTML" is the metered action.
- Professional is built for one person. Its card reads "For the one-person team" and adds "Make it a duo with 1 other seat". The page I read lists no price for a third seat, so three people means Business or a sales conversation.
- Approvals live on the $160 plan. Business adds built-in approval workflows, advanced brand controls and 2 workspaces. That is more than five times the monthly Professional price, so a team that wants one reviewer and nothing else pays for a lot of unused governance.
- It is not a sender. The vendor's own FAQ says RGE Studio is "purely a creation environment" and that "Sending, automation, and data live in your ESP or CRM". If you were hoping to drop a tool, this is not the one that gets dropped.
- Live personalization is not rendered. The FAQ admits that ESP-native dynamic strings "aren't rendered live in the builder", so you design with merge tags and display conditions and check the result after it lands in the sender.
- The vendor says small senders may not need it. Its FAQ states that "Small teams sending occasionally may find their ESP alone is enough". That is honest, and for a lot of readers it is the right answer.
The alternatives, with prices
| Builder | Prices from its page | Seats and exports | Pick it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Topol | PRO $10, Team $15 a month | Unlimited templates and HTML exports; Team adds 3 members, extras from $10 | You export constantly and want no meter |
| Stripo | Free $0, Basic $20, Medium $45, Pro $125 a month | 2, 2, 3 and 10 members; 4, 50, 300 and 4,000 exports a month | You want a step between solo and enterprise |
| Postcards | Start $0, Plus $16, Pro $24 a month | 5, 20 and unlimited exports; 1 teammate on Plus, 3 on Pro | AI-drafted layouts matter to you |
| Mailchimp's own editor | Essentials $13, Standard $20 at 0 to 500 contacts | 3 and 5 seats; custom-coded templates can be created on both, sent from Standard | You already send from Mailchimp |
| Chamaileon | Premium $400, Startup $320 for qualifying teams | Governed team workspace, no free plan | Review and brand control are the whole point |
Sources: Topol, Stripo, Postcards, Mailchimp and Chamaileon. Stripo's page adds that its Free plan suits building templates but not exporting to an ESP, which matters if the reason you are leaving Beefree is the export cap.
What it costs at three team sizes
Builder pricing is driven by seats and exports, so the honest comparison is by team size rather than by list size.
- One designer. Beefree Professional is $30 monthly or $25 billed yearly: $25 x 12 = $300 a year against $30 x 12 = $360. Topol PRO is $10 x 12 = $120 a year. Stripo Basic is $20 x 12 = $240 monthly, with a yearly price of $200 listed on its page.
- Three people. Beefree's Professional card stops at a duo. Topol Team covers 3 members at $15, Postcards Pro includes 3 teammates at $24, and Stripo Medium has 3 members at $45 with 300 exports a month.
- Ten people. Stripo Pro includes 10 members and 4,000 exports for $125 a month. Beefree gives no seat price for that size on the page, so ask its sales team before assuming the $160 Business plan covers it.
Who should switch to what
A freelancer who exports often. The export meter is the problem, so pick a plan with none. Topol says on its PRO card that "Most editors count exports; we don't", which is the opposite of Beefree's 6 a month, and Postcards Pro lifts the cap at $24. Our Topol vs Stripo page covers how the cheapest tiers differ.
A small team that needs a shared library. Stripo Medium at $45 and Topol Team at $15 both give three seats. Stripo's page lists 300 stored emails and 100 test emails a day on Medium, so a team that stores a large archive of templates should read the limits before deciding. Stripo vs BEE Free sets the two against each other line by line.
An agency with clients who approve work. This is the case where Beefree's Business plan is genuinely good: workspaces keep client assets apart, and approvals happen inside the tool. If you leave, you give those up, and the nearest replacement is Chamaileon at $400, which is also a team workspace. Read Unlayer vs Chamaileon for that tier.
A company already on Mailchimp. The builder you are paying for may be duplicating the one in your sender. Mailchimp vs Beefree works out when the second subscription earns its place. Mailchimp's pricing page lists custom-coded templates as "Create — upgrade to send" on Essentials and "Create and Send" on Standard.
A developer who wants the code. If the template should live in Git, leave the visual category entirely and read MJML alternatives and MJML vs React Email.
The option nobody lists: keep the sender, change only the builder
Because Beefree sends nothing, leaving it leaves your sender exactly where it is. Contacts, automations, unsubscribe lists and reports do not move. The only thing that changes is how finished HTML gets into the sender. Beefree's FAQ lists one-click push connectors to Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Pardot and HubSpot, and clean HTML export for platforms such as Klaviyo. Postcards' pricing page lists direct export to Mailchimp, HubSpot, Klaviyo, SendGrid, SendPulse, Brevo, Constant Contact and Zoho Campaigns. Before you pay a new builder, check that your sender is on its export list, or accept that you will paste HTML by hand each time.
What to save before you leave
- The HTML of every live template. On Starter that costs one of six monthly exports per email, so a library of thirty takes five months unless you upgrade for a month. That is simple arithmetic on the plan table, and a reason to do this early.
- Your style values. Write down hex colours, font names, button radii and footer text from your Brand Kit or style settings. They are the part of a template that never survives an export.
- Merge tags and display conditions. List every personalization tag and the rule behind each conditional block, because the new builder will name them differently.
- Images. Download the originals. The plan table meters image delivery traffic, from 20GB a month on Starter to 2TB and above on Enterprise, so check where the images in your exported HTML are hosted and whether links will keep working once the account closes.
- Reusable blocks. Saved and synced blocks live in Beefree's library. Export an email that uses each one and rebuild the block in the new tool.
- Approval history. If a regulator or client may ask who signed off an email, screenshot or export the record before cancelling.
How the migration goes
Treat it as a rebuild of five or six master templates, not of every email you ever sent. Export each master as HTML, open the new builder, and either import the file or reproduce the layout from its blocks. Beefree's FAQ says that its own HTML importer lets a team "bring existing designs into RGE Studio without rebuilding them from scratch", and Postcards' menu shows an Import HTML Email entry, so check the new tool's import feature before rebuilding by hand. Send test emails to your own Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail accounts, then switch the live campaigns one at a time. Keep the Beefree subscription for one extra billing cycle so a broken template can be fixed from the original.
Stay if…
- You are on Business or Enterprise and use approvals, brand locks or workspaces every month.
- Your only gripe is the free cap and a $30 Professional plan fits your work.
- Your sender is on Beefree's one-click connector list and you value skipping the manual paste.
FAQ
Is Beefree still called Beefree?
The pricing page is now titled RGE Studio Pricing, and its FAQ says "RGE Studio (formerly Beefree) is purely a creation environment, not an email marketing system." The beefree.io address still serves it, and the free tier many people know as BEE Free appears there as the Starter plan. Searching for either name leads to the same product.
What does the free Starter plan stop me doing?
Starter lists up to 10 designs, 6 exports a month, a landing page builder and a custom subdomain. In the feature table it also shows a limit of 10 designs, the last 2 versions of history and 20GB of image delivery traffic a month. If you export more than six emails in a month, you need a paid plan, or another builder that does not meter exports.
What is the cheapest way to replace Beefree for one person?
Topol's PRO plan is $10 a month with unlimited templates and HTML exports, and Postcards has a Start plan at $0 with 5 exports a month. Stripo's Free plan costs nothing but allows 4 exports a month and, per its pricing page, is not meant for exporting to an ESP. For a solo designer who sends every week, Topol PRO or Stripo Basic at $20 is the realistic floor.
Do I have to change my email sender when I leave Beefree?
No. RGE Studio does not send email, so your sending platform is unaffected. What changes is how finished HTML reaches it: one-click push connectors in Beefree, versus whatever the new builder offers. Check that your sender is on the new builder's export list, or plan on copying the HTML.
